This contest demonstrates the power of social media and viral marketing. With no promotion or in-store support, The Greatest Dog Contest was posted on Facebook. Fans were asked to submit stories about their dogs, and then come back later to see finalists and vote. Within 3 days we received over 10,000 votes from 48 states and 8,600 new email opt-ins. The contest eventually ended up on many nationally known blogs, and submissions provided additional qualitative customer data information as well.
